not bad but even boldly courageous
Something teible is happening, a group of scientist finds, there is some extremely strange weather in the vicinity of Mars. There also seems to be something like a meteorite or dwarf-planet from another galaxy, they call it 'the outsider'.
Things turn out even worse, when the lines of communiction get interrupted on Mars-Base-3.
Sci-Fi from the good times, when rocket-science was - well - rocket-science!
It's no exaggeration to tell you, this is actually a full blown space-thriller. Nerve-wrecking in the truest sense! The threat is nothing less than total destruction of earth and all mankind - an extremely unpopular idea. Things are even gettign worse, when 'the outsider' enters an earth-orbit instead of passing by. They want to destroy it first with atomic missiles, but decide then, that this would be too dangerous.
A bunch of flying saucers destroys a vessel from earth, but the intruder is supposed to be also a global threat, so war is declared and they return to plan A.
Events are dramatic and one of the discs does fall down to earth, it contains something resembling a vacuum tube, the orbital object approaches further, it seems to be radioactive and pollutes the atmosphere.
Their electronic music drives away the flying discs and makes them destroy themselves. The climax of the movie however is their landing on the orbital object and the exploration of it, and finally it's destruction.

A Fine example of
Cheese of the highest order. Everything about this film is gratuitous. Every frame pours forth its inane and sophomoric attempt at science fiction. Worth watching just to see a manic Claude Raines on the downside of a brilliant career. Two stars merely in home of Mr. Raines.

Kudos to the remastering job
This is a minor Italian sci fi movie with a British star not known for making low budget films. Claude Rains worked alot in television in between getting roles on major productions like Lawrence of Arabia and The Greatest Story Ever Told. Apparently, Rains agreed to do this film for an all expense paid vacation in Italy. Rains gets plenty of scenes and has alot of dialogue in this movie which would be almost completely forgettable without him playing the cantankerous mathematician Benson.
For as long as I can remember, this movie has been in the public domain and the print has always looked more than a little washed out. This version is probably as good as this film has ever looked and ever will look. I don't think you can improve on the quality job done to make this look better. Many thanks for your hard work.

This is a major image quality improvement over the existing IA copy, and worth the download if you're into spaghetti fi.
